Flash Gordon, SCI FI’s latest original series, scored with viewers Friday night, delivering the Channel’s best series premiere telecast for 2007.

The debut of Flash was also the top Adult 25-54 audience for any Friday program on SCI FI in nearly a year. The Flash Gordon premiere was the #3 cable program in prime (Adults 25-54, 8pm-11pm), making SCI FI the #2 basic cable entertainment network on Friday night (Adults 25-54, 8pm-11pm). In addition, Friday’s 9 p.m. series premiere of Flash Gordon:

• Delivered a 1.5 HH rating, 2.1 million total viewers (P2+), 1.2 million Adults 25-54 and 973,000 Adults 8-49.
• #5 cable entertainment program for the day among Adults 25-54, #7 for Adults18-49.
• Outdelivered ABC in Men 25-54 in the 9 p.m. hour.

Placing a 21st century spin on a science fiction classic, SCI FI’s contemporized version of Flash Gordon follows the all-new adventures of Flash (Eric Johnson) and his companions, Dale Arden (Gina Holden) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Jody Racicot).

Ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, they find themselves as Earth’s last line of defense against the forces of the merciless dictator Ming (John Ralston). Flash Gordon airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT only on SCI FI.

Production has begun in Los Angeles on Cavemen, a new comedy that focuses on three cavemen who have successfully made the move to San Diego and are just trying to fit in. The series premieres Tuesday, October 2 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

They have been around since the dawn of time, survived the Ice Age and witnessed the evolution of the Homo sapiens, making them one of the world’s oldest minorities. Keeping mostly to themselves over the millennia and living in remote communities, a small number of cavemen and cavewomen have been slowly migrating from these sub-societies and attempting to acclimate themselves to the Homo sapien world. Needless to say, this has proven difficult.

Joel (Bill English) is a sophisticated and intelligent man who has a beautiful girlfriend, a decent job and shares an apartment with his younger brother, Andy (Sam Huntington, Superman Returns), and his best friend, Nick (Nick Kroll, VH1′s Best Week Ever). Nick is wary of the Homo sapien world and feels like he’s running away from his heritage. Andy, on the other hand, looks at this new world with his eyes wide open and is willing to take risks in order to learn and to live life to the fullest.

Nick questions Joel on many of his choices, including his girlfriend, Kate (Kaitlin Doubleday, The TV Set), a beautiful Homo sapien woman. The fact that Kate’s eccentric mother, Leslie (Julie White, Tony Award winner for The Little Dog Laughed), owns Joel’s condominium complex makes things even more complicated for the three roommates. Meanwhile, Kate’s best friend, Thorne (Stephanie Lemelin), is intent on discovering the cavemen’s wilder side.

Joel, Nick and Andy have to overcome prejudice from most of the Homo sapien world and the misconceptions that modern society has of its earliest ancestors. In order for these cavemen to survive in the 21st century, they must work together to render those misconceptions extinct.

Cavemen stars Bill English as Joel, Nick Kroll as Nick, Sam Huntington as Andy, Kaitlin Doubleday as Kate, Stephanie Lemelin as Thorne and Julie White as Leslie.

The series is based on characters from the GEICO commercials by the Martin Agency. Cavemen was developed by Josh Gordon & Will Speck (directors of Blades of Glory) and Joe Lawson. Bill Martin & Mike Schiff (Grounded for Life, 3rd Rock from the Sun), Gordon & Speck, Daniel Rappaport (Office Space) & Guymon Casady serve as executive producers. Cavemen is from ABC Studios.

It’s official, Lucy Lawless will be back for the next season of Battlestar Galactica, reprising her role as Cylon No. 3. The press release from the Sci Fi channel reads as follows:

Lucy Lawless will return to Battlestar Galactica for a minimum of two episodes of the show’s fourth and final season, currently in production in Vancouver. Lawless will reprise her role as D’Anna, the religious zealot who broke away from the collective voice of her fellow Cylons, thus sowing the first seeds of dissension among the robot race. As a result of her divisive behavior, her entire model was deemed defective and was “boxed.”

Lucy Lawless Unboxed on Battlestar Galactica Sam J. Jones to Guest Star on Flash Gordon

San Diego, CA July 28, 2007 SCI FI announced today the return of Lucy Lawless to Battlestar Galactica and the casting of Sam J. Jones as a guest star on the Channel’s new series Flash Gordon. Jones played the title character in Mike Hodges’ 1980 film, Flash Gordon.

Lucy Lawless will return to Battlestar Galactica for a minimum of two episodes of the show’s fourth and final season, currently in production in Vancouver. Lawless will reprise her role as D’Anna, the religious zealot who broke away from the collective voice of her fellow Cylons, thus sowing the first seeds of dissention among the robot race. As a result of her divisive behavior, her entire model was deemed defective and was “boxed.”

Introduced in a widely read comic strip by Alex Raymond and film serials starring the late Buster Crabbe, Flash Gordon gained a new legion of fans in the 1980s with a film starring Sam J. Jones. SCI FI Channel’s Flash Gordon, a new original series premiering August 10 @ 9PM and featuring Eric Johnson (Smallville) in the title role, contemporizes the Flash legacy for a new generation of viewers. With a tip of the hat to the Flash legacy, Sam J. Jones will guest star in an upcoming episode of the SCI FI series entitled “Revelations.” Jones will play ‘Krebb,’ a seedy prisoner who reveals surprising information about the fate of Flash’s long lost father. This special episode of Flash Gordon is slated to premiere on SCI FI Channel in October.
