Torchwood renewed for second season

The BCC announced Tuesday that freshman sci-fi series "Torchwood" will be back for a second year, but will switch channels in the UK to BBC Two.

(This series is not yet shown in the United States)

The network says new episodes are scheduled to be filmed in the Spring of 2007 and should be ready for air in the UK by autumn.

Currently finishing up its initial 13-episodes on BBC Three, Torchwood is the darker, grittier spin-off of the UK's storied "Doctor Who."

The series, created by Russell T. Davies ("Queer as Folk") stars openly gay actor John Barrowman as the lead, Captain Jack, a man who cannot die.

The BBC said the series is the highest-rated show in the history of BBC Three.
