The producers of the aging James Bond film franchise have chosen a new Agent 007, the replacement actor to fill the shoes of 52-year-old and retiring Pierce Brosnan. Although they are officially keeping mum on who the replacement is, the word on the street is that a little-known British actor has already signed on to the job.
Wednesday, news broke that Sony Pictures Entertainment, the studio which owns the rights to the Bond films, has chosen 37-year-old Daniel Craig as the seventh actor to play Bond on screen.
Although Craig will be the first blond-haired actor to play the part. In the past, Sony had said it wanted to refresh the image of Bond and cast a younger, rugged and sexier actor for the part.
Audiences may be unfamiliar with Daniel Craig's name, but his face will be familiar. He has specialized in playing rugged, dangerous characters, playing "Alex West" a co-starring role with Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and as Paul Newman's troubled son in Road to Perdition.
Craig also has a feature role in Steven Spielberg's upcoming film, Munich, the story of the tragic 1972 Munich Olympics hostage situation.
The newest Bond flick, Casino Royale, is scheduled to start filming in January for a Holiday 2006 release.
Craig beat out better-known actors for the part, including Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor and Orlando Bloom.
